@Elliot thanks for the comment: given all the benefits you describe above the question to ask is: "when can you start again?" I'll investigate your old school although it can be difficult without a web site.

I remember when I was good at karate my whole life was different. I was thinner, fitter, more sociable, more organised and generally had a better hold on things. As well as the physical aspects, karate gave my life something more solid as a routine.
If you want to see an interesting karate it's worth checking out my old club, the style is very rare (about 4 clubs in the UK, 5 in Ireland).
Unfortunately they don't have a website, but I'd be happy to chat about it over a pint :D

I have the same experience for people starting kickboxing having Karate experience: they have good foundation but very stiff and open to attacks. It is true that they usually pick up fast. As in learning anything if you already trained your body and mind to something you can easily adapt. Learning a second language can be difficult but the third will be easier, the fourth more and so on...

I agree that Karate can be a great foundation art. It teaches simple stances and easy arm movements. People who come to my Taiji classes who have some experience in any martial art always seem to get it quicker.
